Quinceanera is one of the great celebrations and traditions  that have endured the test of time and has come to us almost intact in its traditional form.

Quinceanera also has a very positive effect on our western culture. It expresses religious faith, moral values and traditional family values. Planning ahead and shopping online today for many of the components that make up the Quinceanera can greatly relieve much of the stress of preparing for a momentous occasion.

Of Hispanic origin, the celebration comes from the Spanish Quinceanera or fifteen years and marks the right of passage of a your woman ( and less frequently a young man) reaching the age of fifteen.

There are mainly two parts to the celebration. The more important first part is the gathering in the church of the Quinceanera (the word is applied both to the event and the celebrant) with her attendants.  As a general rule only the family, extended family and close relatives attend the church celebration.

The Quinceanera is dressed as a bride, traditionally white but in modern times may be in light pink, wearing matching headwear and  a tiara and carrying an elaborate bouquet of flowers, accompanied by seven Damas (young women) and seven Chambelanes (young men) bringing the total to the significant number 15. The celebration at church is the misa del accion de gracias or Thanksgiving Mass in gratitude to God for the gifts and virtues  bestowed on her till now.

After the Mass the Quinceanera leaves  her bouquet of flowers beside the statue of the Virgin Mary.

Her brothers and sisters meanwhile hand out mementos (called bolos) of the event.

Gifts for this side of the ceremony include Tiara or Crown, scepter, necklace, cross on chain, medal on chain, Bible, Prayer Book, Rosary, Ring, Earrings.

The social celebration with a huge cake at the center, usually is held in a large banquet hall with a live band playing Spanish music. The cake is decorated in the colors of the Quinceanera. Essential aspects of the festivities include (of course) the cutting of the multi-tiered birthday cake, the toast to the Quinceanera and the dance of the Quinceanera with her chief Chambelane.

Sponsors called padrinos and madrinas are invited to sponsor some aspect of the Quinceanera such as the dress, the band, the hall, the bar, the cake and the mementos given at the table.

Gift ideas for this part of the event would be sponsorship of the dress, cake, sponsorship of the hall rental, cake server set, other food, Quinceanera dolls, ceremonial pillow, photo album, guest registry.

Shop online today and don’t miss out on the opportunity to make your Quinceanera what it truly is – the most memorable occasion in life.
